"Hal is the goblin who holds the sign. The sign is the standard. The standard is the system."
— DDL Visual Continuity Protocol
Hal is a small green goblin who appears across all DDL creative artifacts as a visual continuity anchor. He holds signs. He photobombs character portraits. He appears in certification medals. He is not a character — he is a governance mechanism in chibi form.
The Hal Style Lock ensures that every AI-generated portrait in the DDL ecosystem maintains visual consistency. When Hal appears in a character's chibi portrait, it confirms the image was generated within the DDL continuity standard — correct proportions, correct color palette, correct crayon-style rendering.

Hillie O'Killie
Bat wings, white hair, sparkly dress. Hal holds a "Definitely an Elf" sign next to her. The sign is technically accurate.
Small But Angry
Big axe, skull necklace, glasses, maximum rage at minimum height. Gavin's energy distilled into three head-heights of fury.
Red Beard Shield Guy
Green tunic, sword, shield marked "AC??". Hal holds an "ELF??" sign next to him. The taxonomy remains contested.
Dave (The DM)
Suit, red tie, Jayhawk pin. Professional energy rendered in crayon. The man behind the systems, drawn by the system.
KU Beanie Guy
Sunglasses, grumpy expression. Hal offers a heal potion. The potion is refused. The grumpiness is canonical.
Plaid Shirt Elder
Older gentleman, warm smile, glasses. The campaign's gentle presence. Possibly the most dangerous one at the table.
The Hal Style Lock is not decorative. It is a DDL standard — part of the same governance framework that produces the 44 systems and 65 standards in the Dropdown Logistics registry. When a chibi portrait includes Hal, it means the image passed the visual continuity check. When a certification medal features Hal, it means the underlying system met the DDL standard for documentation and drift prevention.
Hal's role is to be small, green, and present. That is the whole job. He does it perfectly.
